PRAGDA
PRAGDA is an independent cultural initiative. It was created with the goals of examining the legacy of Spanish-language films and films from Spain, and of bringing them to diverse audiences around the world via film festivals and other cultural events. We do this with the help of technology and alternative channels. In collaboration with prestigious international institutions such as The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, The Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York, and the British Film Institute (BFI) Southbank in London, PRAGDA also distributes films to universities and schools, and uses the Internet to broadcast live debates and film programs.
PRAGDA’s goals are—–
- To ensure an international platform for Spanish cinema exhibition in both cultural and academic fields. There are many spectacularly talented emerging artists and we especially hope to increase the viewership of their films.
- To highlight and protect the historical and cultural heritage of Spanish cinema through a range of programming available at universities, museums and film societies.
- To help in developing the necessary conditions for the creation of chairs of Spanish Cinema within the Film Studies Departments of participating institutions.
- To promote the image of contemporary Spain by showing high-quality Spanish cinema that is both daring and modern. We plan to do this not only through the content and vision of the films and filmmakers represented, but also through the means of cutting-edge electronic distribution strategies in partnership with leading technology companies.
- To build and strengthen sustainable cultural exchange and relationships between the artists and the local cultural institutions we collaborate with. The filmmakers are invited to most events and are often available to give lectures.
